Overwhelming Indifference
Why is this ok with any of you?
That was a question asked recently. About what you might ask. Well, does it really matter? There are just so many things that are not okay at the present moment in this country I would be hard-pressed to choose one ultimate thing.
And that's one of the things that's hard right now for people who are used to fighting the good fight. There are so many things wrong.
Want to be not okay with Russia interfering in our elections?
Want to be not okay with the likelihood there will be no investigation into Russia interfering in our elections?
Want to be not okay with a President-elect who doesn't read intelligence briefings?Want to be not okay with a President-elect who's going to send us to war with China because he can't control his use of Twitter?Want to be not okay with a President-elect who's already using his position to enrich himself?Want to be not okay with a President-elect who threatens his detractors, promising retribution?
Want to be not okay with a cabinet of white supremecists and billionaires?Want to be not okay with the fact the Republicans ended the inquiry into how the Flint water crisis happened?Want to be not okay with the fact that the water in Flint is still undrinkable?Want to be not okay with North Carolina Republicans stripping the power of the incoming Democratic governor?
Want to be not okay with the show of force used at Standing Rock to protect a private enterprise?Want to be not okay with the possibility of racial profiling being deemed acceptable under Trump?Want to be not okay with the possibility of discrimination against LGBT being deemed acceptable under Trump in the name of "religious freedom"?Want to be not okay with people having their marriages annulled (maybe) and their filing status on their taxes at the whim of the religion of the IRS agent that pulls their return?Want to be not okay with health insurance reaping billions in profit while trying to deny you the health care you need or may need in the future?Want to be not okay with the possibility of the retirement age for people who do very physical work being raised by men who can't manage to sit in an office and work more than 130 days a year?Want to be not okay with a Muslim registry?Want to be not okay with the decimation of our education system?Want to be not okay with the decimation of environmental protections while capitalists line their pockets?
I could go on, obviously. These were the things I could think of off the top of my head.
There are finite hours in a day. There is only so much many of us as individuals can do. Even then, if you're like me you're mentally overloaded. There are so many causes I feel passionate about and at the same time, I am trying to be grounded, stay sane, and find hope in the next four years (at least).
Are you asking people "Why is this ok with any of you?" on one particular topic right now? There are a lot of things that aren't okay with anybody.
Perhaps it is deliberate. Perhaps the idea is to cause so many things to be outraged at that there is no focus. Everyone can pick at least one item from the list that hits home for them more than any other. It's also become clear over the last 20 or so years with with ignorant supporters and blind faith in the propaganda machine known as Fox News, we're not about to get any hearings into anything that is important. Now if you asked for hearings into why a football player knelt during the anthem, they might go for that,
Why is this ok with any of you?
None of it is okay with anyone.
But where do you start?
And that is where the problem is. Wake up and watch the news in the morning (if you do and if it's real news) and you're bombarded with things that make you think "that's not right. Something should be done." Its not just one thing. It's a multitude of things each and every day. A person balancing just one job and a family, nevermind those who are balancing a second to make ends meet, doesn't have the time to express outrage on everything that's not okay at the present time.
And maybe that's exactly what THEY wanted.

I agree, all of this is not okay, not normal. All we can do is protest, contact our legislators, get people out to vote for the mid-term elections, and support each other.
