Demand Evidence and Think Critically - When Your Cause Overshadows the Truth

Inspiration comes from everywhere, and sometimes where you least expect it.

I've struggled with my weight all of my life.  It was never easy, and the lowest I ever was weight-wise was late in high school and again in my early 20's.  I lost a lot of weight a number of years back and felt better, but losing my daughter and subsequent health issues have contributed to it coming back on and then some.  However, I was always healthy.  I can remember going in the hospital to have my kids and the nurses being shocked that I didn't have high blood pressure.  The same lately with every doctor asking if I have diabetes, because of my weight.  Up until my most recent blood test my A1C was usually low, and the most recent one I put more the blame on my lack of mobility as I wait for knee replacement.

There was an online community I liked that attempts to normalize being overweight.  I think that it is no one else's business what you weigh and you shouldn't be shamed for it.  That said, society has a long way to go in that area, especially when it comes to men versus women.  Many men who are overweight seem to have no issue demanding their women look like super-models.  It's mostly men who will fat-shame an actress whether she is legitimately overweight or not, but I do see women in there, too, on many threads, which is one of the reasons I stopped reading so many comment sections.

When the "results" of Donald Trump's most recent alleged physical came out, there was plenty of fat-shaming to be found.  I don't deny that.  However, my take is that it's very disturbing that a physician who is supposed to be neutral has lied about the President's health.  Going back to the community I've followed, they jumped on the "everyone is fat-shaming the President."  I commented that no, not all of us are.  Some of us are very concerned that someone who is supposed to be neutral is obviously lying for whatever reason, most likely to stroke his ego.

I then was piled on about how did I know he was lying?  Unless you've seen the scale you don't know what he weighs.  That is true, but it is very obviously not accurate for a number of reason, not the least of which is the number of people you can find who are also the President's alleged height who also way 239 pounds and who don't look like him.  People can carry weight differently.  For many years, people thought I was at least 20 pounds less than I was because I carry it well.  Usually that is the mis-judgment that goes on.

The President's height was given as 6'3", which is two inches taller than he was earlier in his life.  Even now everywhere but this report lists his height as 6'2". I've heard of people shrinking as they get older, but not growing.  There's a definitive lie.  The physician also added to the report that "all clinical data indicates that the President is currently very healthy and he will remain so for the duration of his Presidency."

Why would he say that?  We've all heard the stories of people who walk out of a doctor's office and drop dead of a heart attack.  Indeed, one of the concerns cited was an elevated cholesterol level despite being on cholesterol medication.  There is no way the doctor could know that he won't drop dead tomorrow, never mind until the end of his Presidency.

Which brings me back to that online community.  They are so eager to jump on the reaction to this - that anyone who finds the inconsistencies in this report about Trump from what is supposed to be a neutral party concerning - that you are now in the "fat shaming" category.  Period.  No room for a difference of opinion.  I was told I had been proven wrong and to back down.  If you know me, I don't back down, especially when it is my opinion looking at the facts as presented.  I don't care what his weight is - I care that this physician lied on this report and worded it in a way to stroke this man's ego rather than be honest.  A man who is supposed to be neutral seems to have turned into another sycophant.

I'm gone from that community by my own volition with a final "go to hell" to the order to back down because I was "wrong."  They are so eager to find the villains in the world and promote their own cause that they have lost touch with critical thinking.  The evidence is there that something is not right, but they don't want to see it because it furthers their agenda.
